Y Josephine is a Venezuelan-born, Toronto-based singer-songwriter, musician, visual artist, writer, and arts facilitator whose creative practice spans music, performance, visual arts, and community engagement. With a sound rooted in jazz, blues, rock, and Latin music, she brings together rhythm, storytelling, experimentation, and a distinctive artistic voice shaped by her multicultural journey.
Throughout her career, Y Josephine has performed, collaborated, and presented work across Venezuela, Aruba, Spain, the UK, and Canada. Her musical projects reflect her versatility and passion for collaboration, including Baoba, the all-female percussion group she co-founded; Zorras, a bilingual multimedia performance collective exploring identity, migration, gender, and disability; Y JAZZephine, her jazz and soul project; All That and a Bag of Chips; and El Rabo del Ojo, a cajón and bass duo with Gustavo Dal Farra.
Beyond music, Y Josephine is an accomplished visual artist and creative facilitator whose work explores identity, resistance, resilience, and the power of artistic expression. Her multidisciplinary practice allows her to move fluidly between sound, image, words, and performance, creating work that connects personal experience with broader social and cultural themes.
She is also the founder of Creative Minds & Mental Health, a community-based initiative that uses music, poetry, and creative exploration to encourage self-expression, connection, and well-being. Through her workshops and artistic collaborations, she creates welcoming spaces where people can explore their creativity, share experiences, and discover new ways of connecting with themselves and others.
At the heart of Y Josephine’s work is a belief in the transformative power of creativity: as a way to challenge boundaries, celebrate difference, build community, and make space for stories that deserve to be heard
